Sherborne International College

How successful are we?

Here at the International College, we always consider ourselves to be a caring, family school which strives for academic excellence. We also believe that we have an important role to play in developing students as balanced, caring individuals who are fully able to flourish once they have left Sherborne.

This page provides you with responses from students from different generations and their parents who have kindly provided us with their thoughts about the College:

"The International College is the location to see the world by being the finest school to meet your best friend. Maybe there are a few mistakes I have made in my life, but studying at the International College is one decision I will never regret ..."

Calvin Wu 1994-1997

"Sherborne was a great little town safe for us at that age, and I am thinking of sending my daughter to Sherborne International College - she is only four so in about ten years from now.

This is where I arrived without a word of English except ''yes'' and ''no'', leaving in two years speaking fluently and going on to Bristol for A levels in Clifton College. Thanks Sherborne"

Eytan Levi 1986-1988

"Sherborne International College or Sherborne Study Centre as I fondly remember it from my time there in January 1996 to June 1997 - it was my home from home and I had the best one and a half years there, made some great friends from all over the globe as well as receiving an excellent academic and extra curricular education from the friendly, committed and professional staff.

I would highly recommend this beautiful picturesque town to anyone wishing to study in the UK"

Jesse Moyo 1996-1997

"International College Sherborne School (formerly and fondly known as 'GreenHill House') gave me an educational grounding and ethos that I used as a benchmark in my further studies and working life".

Gus Amadi 1983-1984

"Greenhill House's name may have changed but the concept still remains, that is, to provide the best possible education and learning environment with the focus being individualized attention for every pupil. I was at Greenhill House in 1986 and 1987, and the friendships that I cultivated so many years ago are still very much alive today. The school has helped provide great success for so many students.

My children will one day attend the International College at Sherborne School, God willing."

Al-Sharif Essam Al-Ghalib 1986-1987

"I have very fond memories of the time I spent at the school, which did an excellent job in preparing me for British boarding school both academically and in relation to after school activities. Having left the school over 20 years ago, to this day, I still continue to follow my interests which the school first taught me including current affairs, history, geography, and playing squash and cricket! Indeed the school was a major factor in helping me discover my interests and helped me become the person I am today."

Tritip Arunanondchai 1989-1990

"International College Sherborne School helped me to develop talents that weren't developed in schools in my country as well as prepare me for the A- levels and the best academic Intstitutions in England."

Anna Piskovaia 2007-2008

"Greenhill House (International College) is home away from home. A place to learn and grow, establishing everlasting friendships and enjoying a wide variety of sports in excellent facilities. A safe haven for a student and a place you will miss and never forget."

Ricardo Casanas

"I appreciate the education your school gave my son, Kei, for a year until June.

The most important factor in your education is the small-sized class that makes the time in a classroom more fruitful. Kei said that teachers knew each pupil's level of understanding on subjects very precisely, which encourages pupils much.

Also, the everyday's prep time was helpful to make pupils revise subjects in a regular manner.

Kei studied AS-level Math and took exams in your school and his results allowed him to enter his next school. It lightened his burden in the lower sixth form and enabled him to concentrate on his intended major subject , namely economics."

"When we visited SherborneInternationalCollegefor the first time, we were impressed by the small number of students per class; we liked the atmosphere: serious and respectful; we also noticed that the staff and the teachers spoke English very well but in a way which was easy to understand for a foreigner. We thought that those elements would provide a good learning environment for our son Jeremie.

Our expectations were fully met. Jeremie adapted very well to Sherborne, he improved his learning skills and his organization. He now speaks English very well. In addition, he had a good social life and made good friends. The communication with the staff and the teachers was always very good and timely. Last but not least, the school helped us a great deal to place Jeremie into another college where, next year, he will prepare for A levels"

Parents of Jeremie Cognie 2010-2011

"His personality has flourished and he has got a very clear idea of his future aims. He has made a lot of friends and enjoyed learning about other cultures.

Working in small groups as well as the relationship between teachers and students is very good, also examination preparation for IGCSE."

Parents of Moritz Richter 2010-2011

"We really appreciate all the help our son got from teachers and staff.

At our friend's recommendation, we chose Sherborne International College for our son for his summer courses and 1-year GCSE study a year ago and now we think we made the right decision. The Vice-principal, the Principal, the registrar, the travel and financial administrators have all been very patient to answer all sorts of our questions and are always ready to help us to solve all kinds of problems. The matrons are very nice and very responsible. They work very hard to take good care of our son's life in the school. The matron of the house where our son lives in and the school nurse kept a close track of our son's health and sent me his health reports.

Special mention should also go to his inspiring teachers. We are really amazed at our son's passion for some of the subjects he is studying. We learned from him that he has become so passionate about some of the subjects simply because his teachers have inspired his interest.

We are also very grateful to the future school advisor, who offered us thoughtful suggestions and really helped us a lot in choosing a future school for our son.

What impressed us most is the story our son told about the Principal's firmness with the school rules, which released us from worry."

"When I was there, I thought it was hard. But now, remembering what I did, what I learned from Sherborne, I realized that it was the most important time of my life, those were very unforgettable years... Sometimes, I wish I could go back to those years and do better."

Benny Chan 1983-1986

"Sherborne is set apart from other boarding schools, it provides students with the building blocks both inside and outside the classroom. The student diversity is invaluable to a student learning about living in today's global economy."
