On Friday 14 October the International College arranged a meeting at the House of Lords, at which Baroness Garden of Frognal, a Government Whip in the Lords, met 27 UK-based educational consultants.
Baroness Garden thanked the representatives for their work in fostering friendship and understanding in the international community; and emphasised 'the value that the Government puts on overseas pupils coming to study at our schools'.
She thanked the representatives present for their work in bringing so many young people to British schools. 'A British education, at a British school, is a by-word for excellence and opportunity. The UK welcomes young people from all over the world to share in the ongoing success of our schools.'
The meeting gave representatives of educational consultants the opportunity to raise concerns about the Tier 4 visa system, and Baroness Garden promised to help pass their concerns to the Home Office. The International College is following this up.
The meeting, during which afternoon tea was served, ended with the Government representatives expressing the hope that the educational consultants would continue to be successful in their work.
The consultants present felt that the meeting had been valuable, and that they had greatly enjoyed meeting each other as well!
